Combat System & Guide

In the world of Naruto different people use different types of skills for combat, depending on their preference they master different sorts of combat styles or they just focus on a single fighting style in which they become true masters of the trade. There are eight combat styles, all with their different weaknesses and benefits. Some will want to focus on only one fighting style, while others will focus on numerous ones. What will you do? Those who are not shinobi will be unable to use some styles and for them we do have a special treat.

Combat Styles:

  • Taijutsu:
Taijutsu (体術; Literally meaning "Body Techniques") is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally require no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are much quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is simply put: hand-to-hand combat.
  • Ninjutsu:
Ninjutsu (忍術; Literally meaning "Ninja Techniques"), is a term referring to almost any technique and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are real. They vary greatly in purpose, with the simpler ninjutsu serving such tasks as transforming the user or allowing them to evade attacks. These techniques are often second-nature for experienced shinobi, who can use them at will. breakfast
  • Genjutsu:
Genjutsu (幻術; Literally meaning "Illusionary Techniques") are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses. This is often used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation.
  • Medical:
Medical Ninjutsu (医療忍術, Iryō Ninjutsu; Literally meaning "Medical Ninja Techniques") is a branch of ninjutsu associated with healing, as well as the manipulation of their own, or anothers' body, practised by shinobi categorised as "medical-nin". The use of medical ninjutsu requires very good chakra control, as well as extensive knowledge on such things as herbs, medicines, the human body and even poisons.
  • Sensory:
A sensor (感知タイプ, Kanchi taipu; Literally meaning "Perception type") is a type of ninja that is capable of detecting the presence of other people through their chakra. A skilled sensor can detect their targets from a great distance, as well as differentiate the characters by their chakra signature alone. They are even able to tell when other sensors are using their abilities. Some are able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and even use sensory skills in a way that they are even able to tell if their targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra.
  • Bukijutsu:
Bukijutsu is the art of using different tools and weapons. Most weapon users tend to focus on only one weapon, while others combine different types of weapons in order to overwhelm their foe with their variety. Weaponry can be used in combination with taijutsu, ninjutsu, chakra flow and even genjutsu in order to achieve more devastating techniques. The two most common types of weaponry are Shuriknejutsu and Kenjutsu
Kenjutsu (剣術; Literally meaning "Sword Technique") pertains to techniques that entail the use of swords, whether the users be shinobi or samurai.
Shurikenjutsu (手裏剣術; Literally meaning "sword hidden in the hand techniques") pertains to techniques that entail the throwing of shuriken, kunai, senbon or any other of a number of bladed, hand-held weapons.
  • Fuinjutsu:
Fūinjutsu (封印術; Literally meaning "Sealing Techniques") are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. An imbalance is created when an odd-numbered seal is placed on top of an even-numbered seal and vice-versa.
  • Puppetry:
Puppetry is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. While most puppeteers (傀儡使い, kugutsutsukai) would normally be able to control ten puppets at most (one per finger), one can use the Human Puppetry technique on their own body to increase the amount of puppets which they can control.

Starting Combat styles
Everyone starts with a couple of starting combat styles and from there they can continue improving their skills and growing. What you do and which combat styles you get is something that you must decide and nobody can make that decision for you as you are the one who knows which skills suit them the most.

Calculation:
Shinobi Starting CS by Rank.
D-Rank Shinobi = 2 CS
C-Rank Shinobi = 4 CS
B-Rank Shinobi = 6 CS
A-Rank Shinobi = 8 CS
S-Rank Shinobi = 10 CS

[size=16]Bonuses:
+1 Basic for having no Bloodline
+1 Basic for having no starting element

Physical Based Combat Styles

Taijutsu

Taijutsu (体術; Literally meaning "Body Techniques") is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities.

What this means role-play wise, is that by default these two are equal in regards to physical prowess. This transcends the rankings, meaning there are three set speeds that can be amplified through jutsu, techniques, styles, or any other enhancement concept. This will be further elaborated on in the Role-Playing Guide. The rushed version is that all-non Physical based Combat Styles are the less physically skilled individuals. Those that possess either Buki or Tai are naturally faster than the non physical based CS characters. And lastly, those that possess both Tai and Buki are deemed the natural fastest of the three types.

Talent-less : None
~ Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E rank, since every human can punch someone or kick them. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Taijutsu techniques, one must first gain the Competent level.

Competent : Tier I
~ At Competent level one can learn E and D Ranked techniques of Taijutsu typing. The ones with this level of skills in their hand to hand combat are naturally faster and stronger than those who are not trained in these arts. Indeed, Taijutsu is an art which one uses their body as a weapon and in order for one to become better in this art they need to make their attacks stronger and faster than others.

Skilled : Tier II
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C Ranked techniques of Taijutsu typing. In regard to Gates activation, which must be bought from the limited store, they are able to activate only the first 2 gates (after required Word Count has been completed).

Expert : Tier III
~  At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B Ranked techniques of Taijutsu. At this rank the user/practitioner begins to come into their own in terms of ability and power. They are capable of creating their own style of fighting. Due to the focus on one's physical ability, the practitioner becomes more fluid and doesn't waste as energy when performing acts of physical skill. At this tier practitioners are able to develop styles that can increase aspects of their physical prowess. In regards to Gate activation, after buying the it from the limited store, these practitioners are only able to activate the first 4 gates (Word Counts must be completed).

Elite : Tier IV
~ At Elite level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of Taijutsu. These individuals stand out among others who practice the art of taijutsu. In addition to this, they are capable of teaching their custom styles to others. Like true martial artists they can target the joints or any other weak points that a body has, although they are not medics and do not quite know how the body functions, they do know how to land a blow where it really hurts. These individuals are capable of reaching the 6th Gate, in regards to the 8 Gates, but only after purchase from the limit shop.

Mastery : Tier V
~ At Mastery level one can learn E, D, C, B, A, and S-Ranked techniques of Taijutsu. A Taijutsu master is highly advanced with these physical arts for their ranking. At his level, taijutsu users are very familiar with their own body and its secrets so they are capable of opening all of the Chakra Gates [Still must be purchased from the Limit Shop]. Of course, not even they can survive the side-effects of opening the 8th Chakra Gate and so they will die if they dare to do so.

Bukijutsu

Bukijutsu is the art of using different tools and weapons. Most weapon users tend to focus on only one weapon, while others combine different types of weapons in order to overwhelm their foe with their variety. Weaponry can be used in combination with taijutsu, ninjutsu, chakra flow and even genjutsu in order to achieve more devastating techniques. The two most common types of weaponry are Shuriknejutsu and Kenjutsu.

Note: Chakra Flow techniques do not require chakra conductive materials if one possesses  a Weaponry Spec. The ability to coat a weapon in a particular affinity, such as "Wind Release: Vacuum Blade" or "Fire Release: Nail Crimson" does not require chakra conductive metal. Thus, if you possess a Weaponry Spec on any level, you can coat your weaponry in chakra with specific techniques.

Talent-less : None
~ Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only to basic weapons and techniques of E the most basic skills that every shinobi must have. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Weaponry techniques or be able to unlock more of their item's potential, one must first gain the Basic level. You are allowed no more than 5 ninja tools in your possession per thread. Custom tools will still need to be purchased.

Competent : Tier I
~ At Competent level one can learn E, D-Ranked techniques of weaponry. At this level you cannot channel chakra through a weapon.  You are allowed no more than 10 ninja tools in your possession per thread. Custom tools will still need to be purchased.

Skilled : Tier II
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of weaponry. You are allowed no more than 15 ninja tools in possession per thread. Custom tools will still need to be purchased. You can channel chakra through the weapons which you use, but that chakra is lost after usage.

Expert : Tier III
~  At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B-Ranked techniques of weaponry. You are allowed no more than 20 ninja tools in possession per thread. You can channel chakra through the weapons which you use, but that chakra is lost after usage.  At this tier one is capable of creating their own style that involves a certain type of weapon.

Elite : Tier IV
~ At Elite level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of weaponry. You are allowed no more than 25 ninja tools in their possession per thread. They also gain the ability below.
Regarding Chakra Conducting Ability:
When channeling chakra through your weapons (through Chakra Flow techniques such as the Flying Swallow, Samurai Sabre, Chidori: Katana, and so on) it can be done in a circular motion. This circular connection between the weapon and your body allows such techniques to be maintained without paying an upkeep cost, but doing this doubles their activation cost. Blasting chakra from your weapon like Cloud Style: Flame Sword Beheading or in projectile ways like how masters of the Samurai Sabre can do (through custom techniques among other ways) does not allow this circular connection between the projectile and yourself which makes such techniques unable to benefit from the lack of an upkeep cost for the projectile/blasting part of the technique.

Mastery : Tier V
~ At Mastery level one can learn E, D, C, B, A, and S-Ranked techniques of weaponry. You are allowed no more than 30 ninja tools in their possession per thread.
The use of medical ninjutsu requires very good chakra control, as well as extensive knowledge on such things as herbs, medicines, the human body and even poisons.

  • Talent-less
~ Not having Ijutsu as a combat style means that you cannot use these skills.

  • Competent
~ At Competent level one can learn E and D-Ranked techniques of Ijutsu. They have slight skill in their chakra control due to the fact that they have just started with learning this wonderful skill, though it is at the base stages. At this level they know the basics of medicine such as the locations of all the organs in the human body, the names and locations of bones and how each organ functions. They are still not ready to perform operations on someone due to their limited knowledge. However they are unable to covering their hands with medical chakra.

  • Skilled
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of Ijutsu. They have moderately improved their chakra control due to the fact that they have just started with learning this wonderful skill, there is still so much for them to learn. At this level they know the basics of medicine such as the locations of all the organs in the human body, the names and locations of bones and how each organ functions. Mental/Sense Based Combat Styles

Genjutsu

  • Talent-less
~ Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E, which has no practical use whatsoever. Essentially at this level, genjutsu is useless for the practitioner. Tier 5 on the pain scale to break out genjutsu.

  • Competent
~ Those at Competent rank limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E and D rank.  Practitioners can only target an opponents sense of vision and cause simple ocular illusions. Ninja of this level have basic understanding of genjutsu Kai, and can break up to D rank genjutsu with it. Anything higher requires some sort of pain. Tier 4 on the pain scale to break out genjutsu completely.

  • Skilled
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of Genjutsu. Genjutsu users at this level are capable of much more complex level so their illusions can target two senses. Still, since their illusions are still in a developing state, if an opponent cancels out one of those illusions, they would cancel the other one as well. Illusionists are people of a sharp mind which is needed to perform illusions, so they are more intelligent and have a increased awareness. Ninja at this stage have a better grasp of genjutsu, and the inner workings of genjutsu kai. They can still only break up to C rank genjutsu with it, but higher rank genjutsu requires a Tier 3 amount of pain as well.

  • Expert
~  At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B Ranked techniques of Genjutsu. Genjutsu users at this level are capable of much more complex level so their illusions can target three senses. Given that the users has become skilled at the use of genjutsu, even if the victim uses Kai they will only remove two senses that are being fooled by genjutsu. Which senses are cleared are completely up to the victim, meaning that the caster can't decide which senses is free of genjutsu. Ninja at this stage have a better grasp of genjutsu, and the inner workings of genjutsu kai. They can break up to B rank genjutsu with it, but require a Tier 2 amount of pain to break higher ranked genjutsu.

  • Elite
~ A Genjutsu Elite is a highly advanced illusionist. At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of Genjutsu. Genjutsu users at this level are capable of highly complex illusions that can target four senses. Of course, all of these abilities would require a lot of chakra, since only the most powerful illusions can effect that much senses. Ones possessing this level are are acutely aware of their surroundings to the extent that they have the capabilities to notice smallest changes to the environment (even rapid changes in the chakra nearby). They require significantly less pain to break out of genjutsu of a lower rank, Tier 1 pain at the most in conjunction with Genjutsu Kai.

  • Mastery
~ At Mastery level one can learn E, D, C, B, A, and S-Ranked techniques of Genjutsu. Genjutsu users at this level are capable of the most complex level of illusions, capable of targeting all senses simultaneously. A Genjutsu master is such a highly advanced illusionist, those of this class can easily make even their weakest genjutsu appear very real with little to no give away signs. True masters of the understanding of genjutsu, can use genjutsu kai to break out of genjutsu up to S-rank and lower, and require no pain to do so.

Sensory
A sensor (感知タイプ, Kanchi taipu; Literally meaning "Perception type") is a type of ninja that is capable of detecting the presence of other people through their chakra. A skilled sensor can detect their targets from a great distance, as well as differentiate the characters by their chakra signature alone. They are even able to tell when other sensors are using their abilities. Some are able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and even use sensory skills in a way that they are even able to tell if their targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra.

  • Talent-less
~ Not having sensory as a combat style means that you cannot use these skills. These arts are too advanced, so someone who is not skilled with them in any way should not even try using them.

  • Competent
~ At Competent level one can learn E, and D-Ranked techniques of sensory. They have slight chakra control due to the fact that they have just scratched the surface of its use. At this level they know the basics of sensing such as the ability to detect familiar presences small distances away, but would not know when they themselves are being sensed. However, they are still unable to perform the jutsu needed to sense others. They are hardly combat ready in performing sensory, and is still practically useless at this level aside from basic knowledge of how it is used.

  • Skilled
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of sensory. They have moderately improved their chakra control due to the fact that they have just started with learning this tactful skill, there is still so much for them to learn. At this level they know the basics of sensing such as the ability to detect familiar presences medium distances away, or know when they themselves are being sensed. They are still not combat ready in performing sensory, as its more of a trait than a skill at this point. At this level, they can only sense targets a medium distance away, something around 100 meter radius at best, but have no actual way to differentiate between targets unless they are visually watching them. As Skilled Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Skilled or lower sensory shinobi. At this stage, they are able to discern C-rank and below genjutsu near instantly.

  • Expert
~  At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B-Ranked techniques of sensory. Now they have improved their chakra control to a even higher level. Sensory techniques have an increased range, up to 200 meters radius. At this level they are combat ready, and considered talented in this area. They are able to hide there presence for the most part, however it is still yet unrefined, as they cannot use any jutsu's or attack when hiding there presence. They can detect different users at this stage, but only if they've encountered them before. As Expert Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Expert sensory and lower shinobi. At this stage, they are able to discern B-rank and below genjutsu near instantly, though still require the use of Genjutsu Kai in order to break it.

  • Elite
~ At Elite level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of Sensory. Sensory techniques have an increased range, up to 300 meters radius. They are able to hide there presence and are able to use any physical attacks (kunai tossing or physical striking) when hiding their presence (once the attack is already commencing, your presence becomes known ). However, performing jutsu at the same time is still not possible. They can detect different elemental users at this stage and can recognize chakra signature they have encountered before. They are knowledgeable at this stage, able to see and detect other sensors, not just when those sensors are sensing. As Elite Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Elite sensory and lower shinobi. At this stage, they are able to discern A-rank and below genjutsu near instantly, though still require the use of Genjutsu Kai in order to break it.

  • Mastery
~ Sensory Masters are the best trackers of the shinobi world, capable of performing any operation in any kind of condition, even during a battle. Masters know all of the little secrets one can preform to maximize there stealth and sensing abilities. At this level, they can spread there abilities out to 500 meters, they can discern between chakra signatures of shinobi from different populations. They are able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and there sensory skills are such that they are even able to tell if there targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra. Its not only sensing, they are able to mask there presence to all but contact or scent style sensing techniques. At this stage, they are able to discern A rank and below genjutsu near instantly, though still require the use of Genjutsu Kai in order to break it. You can also tell negative and positive emotions through sensing. As Master Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Master Sensory equivalent shinobi and lower. However, they are still unable to perform jutsu while masking their presence.

Miscellaneous Combat Styles

Fuinjutsu
Fūinjutsu (封印術; Literally meaning "Sealing Techniques") are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. An imbalance is created when an odd-numbered seal is placed on top of an even-numbered seal and vice-versa.

  • Talent-less
~ Without Fuinjutsu, at least the talent-less level, the only sealing that you can do is use the generic sealing method and seal weapons into a scroll. You can't do this in a battle though, you don't have the skill for that. Thus weapon sealing at this rank must be done in another thread before attempting use. E-rank at best.

  • Competent
~ At Competent level one can learn E, and D-Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu. You still need to write the symbols with either ink of some kind or with your own blood and you can only write them on paper. At this moment you can only inanimate objects, nothing else. Your skill is still not good enough for being used in battles though as it takes some time to write the seals onto the paper. Also, those who are the users of this are are quite wise by default, so much so that they possess knowledge of all jutsu D-Rank or lower (only if they possess that element). Meaning, if there is a fire release user who only knows the great fireball technique, he will also have all the important details related to all canon fire techniques (yes, canon only). Sealed items must be done in threads before use, due to the process taking to much time to use it practically in a battle on the spot.

  • Skilled
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu. You still need to write the symbols with either ink of some kind or with your own blood, but you can write them on paper or solid surfaces. At this level one can only seal chakra (of their main element only) and inanimate objects, nothing else. • Expert
~ At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, B-Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu. You still need to write the symbols with either ink of some kind or with your own blood, but you can write them on any surface and not just paper (must be solid surface). At this moment you can seal chakra, inanimate objects and dead creatures (human or animal). The only thing that your seals won't affect are summons and chakra beasts. You can use your skills in battle since now you can seal chakra that is C-Rank or lower in battle (that are related to your main element) and inanimate objects. However, bodies cannot be seal while under attack or in a fight; the fight must end first. Now you have knowledge of all canon techniques of your element up to B-Rank (of your main element only).

  • Elite
~ At Elite level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu. Now you can write seals using chakra, ink, blood or any other substance on any surface. You can seal everything and you can form complex seals effortlessly. Now you got knowledge of all canon techniques of your element up to A-Rank (of your main element only). You can use your skills in battle since now you can seal chakra that is B-Rank or lower in battle (that are your related to your main element or Sub element) and inanimate objects. Living bodies (incapacitated only) can be sealed, as well as, dead ones: however this cannot be done while in combat, at all.

  • Mastery
~ At Mastery level one can learn E, D, C, B, A, and S-Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu. Now you can write seals using chakra, ink, blood or any other substance on any surface. You can seal everything and you can form complex seals effortlessly. Now you got knowledge of all canon techniques of your element up to S-Rank (of your main element only). You can use your skills in battle since now you can seal chakra that is A-Rank or lower in battle (that are your related to your main element or Sub element) and inanimate objects. Living bodies (incapacitated only) can be sealed, as well as, dead ones: however this cannot be done while in combat, at all.

Puppetry
Puppetry is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. While most puppeteers (傀儡使い, kugutsutsukai) would normally be able to control ten puppets at most (one per finger), one can use the Human Puppetry technique on their own body to increase the amount of puppets which they can control.

  • Talent-less
~ You cannot use puppetry in any way, nor can you form chakra strings.

  • Competent
~ At Competent level one can learn E and D-Ranked techniques of Puppetry techniques. Though one cannot create puppets, they are capable of forming chakra strings and control small objects like ninja tools.

  • Skilled
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, and C-Ranked techniques of Puppetry and you can make/use puppets up to C-rank. Your control puppets with movement and reaction similar to a Skilled Taijutsu ninja. In addition to this, the practitioner is only able to use a single hand to control a puppet and can create chakra strings on one hand.

  • Expert
~  At Expert level one can learn E, D, C, and B-Ranked techniques of Puppetry and you can make/use puppets up to B-rank. Your control puppets with movement and reaction similar to a Expert Taijutsu ninja. The practitioner is capable of forming chakra strings on both hands and can control two puppets simultaneously, however, this will decrease the the both of the puppet's movement and reaction time to Skilled.

  • Elite
~ At Elite level one can learn E, D, C, B, and A-Ranked techniques of Puppetry and you can make/use puppets up to A-rank. Your control puppets with movement and reaction similar to a Elite Taijutsu ninja. The practitioner is capable of forming chakra strings on both hands and can control three puppets simultaneously, however, this will decrease the The puppets prowess to Skilled. However if only two are being used, one will be able to move at Expert Taijutsu while the other will be limited to Skilled taijutsu.

  • Mastery
~ At Skilled level one can learn E, D, C, B, A, and S-Ranked techniques of Puppetry and you can make/use puppets up to S-rank. Your control puppets with movement and reaction similar to a Mastery Taijutsu ninja. The practitioner is capable of forming chakra strings on both hands and can control four puppets simultaneously, however, this will decrease the accuracy and speed of the puppets in which the puppets are used to Skilled. However if only two are being used, both will be able to move at at a level comparable to Elite. If three are being used, two will be able to move at most at Expert while the third will move at Elite. If all four are used, at best all four move like Skilled Taijutsu shinobi.

*Rank supersedes the CS System. This means if your not of the rank needed to perform a high ranked jutsu, you can't. This is regardless of what the CS System allows. For example, A Expert D-Rank taijutsu will only have access to D-rank or lower jutsu. This is despite the fact that an Expert Taijutsu character has access to B rank jutsu.
